Discovery Flight
The Discovery Flight is a 45 to 60 minute structured introduction to flying at High Country. It begins on the ground with a briefing covering the aircraft, the avionics, and what the flight will cover.
From there you take the controls of a brand-new Piper Archer TX equipped with Garmin G1000 NXi glass cockpit avionics and fly with a certified instructor over some of the most demanding and rewarding terrain in the country.
This is not a sightseeing ride. It is a structured first look at what training here actually feels like, whether you are starting from zero or returning to advance a certificate. The debrief covers what a training program would look like for your specific goals and what the path forward looks like from here.
What's included:
- Pre-flight briefing with your instructor
- Time at the controls of a new Piper Archer TX
- Garmin G1000 NXi glass-cockpit avionics introduction
- Overview of the training path toward your pilot certificate
- Post-flight debrief and clarity on next steps

Take the Controls for your First Flight
A Discovery Flight at High Country Flight Training is your first real introduction to aviation. Fly alongside a certified instructor, take the controls in flight, and experience what it’s like to fly in one of the most incredible training environments in the country.
Operating out of Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (KBZN), every flight combines real-world aviation experience with stunning views of the Montana Rockies.

Experience the High Elevation Difference
Training at KBZN exposes students to:
- High-density altitude operations
- Mountain weather patterns
- Changing wind conditions
- Towered airport communication
- Real-world airline and jet traffic
Learning to fly in this environment develops stronger awareness, smoother aircraft control, and better decision-making from day one.

From Taxi to Final Approach
Your instructor will walk you through:
- Aircraft basics
- Preflight procedures
- Taxi and takeoff
- Basic flight maneuvers
- Real pilot communication
Once airborne, you’ll have the opportunity to fly the aircraft yourself while taking in views of the Bridger Mountains, Gallatin Valley, and surrounding peaks.

Your First Step Before Committing to Training
Whether you’re considering flight school, exploring an aviation career, or simply want to experience Montana from the air, a Discovery Flight is the best place to start.
No experience required.
